For this three day detox diet you will need a juicer and a blender, preferably high speed. This program is based on a cleansing diet that was created by raw food chef, Jill Pettijohn.

Begin each day with herbal or green tea; you can drink as much herbal or green tea as you like during the day.

Consume your juices and soups two to three hours apart and be sure to drink lots of water in between. Ideally your juice or soup should be prepared just before consuming but if this is not possible just prepare your day’s supplies in the morning and store in glass containers in the fridge.

End each day with a relaxing tea such as chamomile.

3 Day Raw Food Detox Diet Menu

Green Juice

1 green apple, 4 celery stalks, 1 cucumber, 3 kale leaves, ½ peeled lemon, ¼ cabbage

Pass ingredients through juicer and consume immediately.

Morning Snack

How a raw food diet can help to prevent cancer

There is certainly a lot more research to be done regarding exactly how the nutrients found in a raw food diet help to prevent cancer. However, what is known is that a high intake of fruits and vegetables, which have the majority of the suspected cancer fighting nutrients, are linked with a reduced risk of cancer.

In order to give your body its best defense against cancer you should get to know about some of the foods high in cancer fighting nutrients. The following list outlines some of the great anti-cancer foods.

Avocados: Avocados contain glutathione, which is one of the most powerful antioxidants. They are also rich in potassium and beta-carotene, which have both been linked to a lower risk for some types of cancer. Avocados have also been associated specifically with helping in the treatment of hepatitis.

Broccoli, cabbage, bok choy and cauliflower: These vegetables are categorized as cruciferous vegetables. Cruciferous vegetables contain a variety of vitamins, minerals and nutrients that have been linked with preventing different cancers.

Specifically, they contain sulforaphane, which is thought to help protect against colon and rectal cancers. Sulforaphane has been shown in research to help to deactivate carcinogens found in the body and stop the growth of tumors.

Carrots: Carrots have a lot of beta-carotene, which has been linked to a reduction in the risk for cancers that affect the lungs, mouth, throat and stomach. Additionally, they contain falcarinol, which has also been linked in studies to reducing the risk for some types of cancer by slowing the growth of cancer cells. In order to get the falcarinol from carrots they must be eaten raw.

Chili peppers and jalapenos: These hot peppers contain capsaicin, which is a chemical that is thought to neutralize carcinogens in the body.

Flax and hempseeds: Flax and hemp seeds are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to help protect the body against colon cancer.

Garlic: Garlic helps to give the immune system a boost, which is beneficial to overall health. A healthy immune system includes cells that fight cancer and helps to break down carcinogens in the body. Garlic has also been linked to numerous cancers as lowering the risk of development.

Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits contain monoterpenes, which is thought to help
prevent cancer by removing carcinogens from the body.

Grapes: Grapes contain bioflavonoids, which are antioxidants that help to prevent cancer. They also contain resveratrol, which stops the stimulation of cancer cells that leads to tumor growth.

Kale: This green leafy vegetable has nitrogen compounds in it that are believed to help stop the growth of cancerous cells in estrogen sensitive tissue. Additionally, kale contains isothiocyanates and phytochemicals, which also are believed to stop tumor growth and block carcinogens.

Mushrooms: Different types of mushrooms like Shiitake, Maitake and reishi are beneficial to the immune system. They contain polysaccharides which helps give the immune system a boost. They also contain lectin, which fights cancer cells and prevents their reproduction.

Papayas: Papayas contain vitamin C that is beneficial to overall health and is believed to help reduce absorption of some carcinogens.

Raspberries: Raspberries contain anthocyanins, which are antioxidants that have been shown to protect the body against cancer.

Sweet potatoes: Sweet potatoes are a great source of beta-carotene, which has been shown to fight cancer.

Tomatoes: Tomatoes contain lycopene, which is an antioxidant that helps stop free radicals, which are thought to be the source of cancer. They also contain vitamin C, which is another antioxidant that can prevent cancer.

Turmeric: Turmeric has been linked to helping protect against bowel and colon cancer. It has potent anti-inflammatory effects and has traditional use as a liver herb and blood cleanser.

Pumpkin: Pumpkins contain high levels of beta-carotene, which make them an excellent food source to fight cancer.

As you can see there are a wide variety of foods that offer protective effects against cancer. The reason that most of these foods are vegetables and fruits is because they contain the largest amounts of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients that have been shown to help fight against cancer.

The foods listed above are just examples of some of the great fruits and vegetables you can eat to help protect you against cancer. However it is important to remember that preventing cancer is about more than just eating healthy.

A well-balanced and properly planned raw food diet can be a powerful tool in reducing your risk of cancer but you must remember to pay attention to the other aspects of your lifestyle as well, such as exercise, sleep and stress management. This will ensure that your body’s resilience is at its highest so as to create optimal health and wellbeing.
